Pay By The Page, Not The Cartridge - Saving Money With HP Instant Ink

try.hpinstantink.com/pNJBV
When you sign up for an HP Instant Ink plan, you pay a monthly fee to print a defined number of pages per month. The plans are based on the number of pages that you print, not on how many ink cartridges you use.

My ink costs will be under $50 this year. Total.

It used to be twice that, at least, and I wasn't even printing nearly as much.   I've printed at least a dozen cookbooks this year alone.

The only catch is that you have to have an instant ink compatible HP printer, but I think all of the newer printers are compatible.  I've been using this for 6 months now, and wish I had learned about this so much sooner!  The

When you sign up for an HP Instant Ink plan, you pay a monthly fee to print a defined number of pages per month. The plans are based on the number of pages that you print, not on how many ink cartridges you use.

Your monthly fee pays for ink, shipping, and recycling.

If you do not print all of your plan pages in a month, you can roll over up to two times the number of pages per month in your plan. ( For the $0 plan, only unused additional pages that were purchased roll over into the next month. Free pages do not roll over.)

If you print more pages, there is an additional charge but you are still paying the same price per page as your base plan.  OR, you can login and up your plan to the next level before the billing cycle.  When I realized I was going to go way over my 50 pages last month, I simply logged in and bumped up to the $4.99 a month plan, giving me 100 pages.  I'll stay at that rate through the holidays, when I print a lot more, and I can go back to a lower plan for the summer months when I am not printing nearly as much.

A printed page counts the same whether it’s black and white, a color document, or a photo.

Thankful, Grateful, and Oh So Blessed Pumpkin Stack

Quick Links:
These are the pumpkins at the Dollar tree.
The stems are held on with toothpicks, so they are very easy to remove!
Remove the stems, paint the pumpkins antique white.
I painted one stem brown.
Then using the toothpicks that held the stems on, stack the pumpkins once again, placing the brown stem on top.

Each line of text is approximately 1 inch tall.
Fonts are

For transfer tape, I use contact paper from the Dollar tree.
(Not the duct brand  contact paper from wal-mart - that's too thin for my liking)

Quick, easy, and cheap!

Ranch Au Jus Peppericini Crockpot Roast

This recipe popped up in my facebook feed this morning, and I kept thinking about it until I finally went to the store and bought the ingredients. I stopped at the BiLo in Watsontown, where it's 55 cents for their store brand au jus and another 55 cents for the store brand ranch dressing. Peppericini cost me $2 for a jar - that might be cheaper at Dollar General? And roasts were on sale today.
You just dump this in the crock pot. Just the dry ingredients on top of the roast, throw the peppers on top, turn the crock pot on and walk away. That's it.
At supper time I pulled the beef out and sliced it, and I put the broth in a pan, heated it to boiling, and added a little corn starch that I had mixed in cold water, to make a gravy.
This was SO good. SO, SO good. Tender, with great flavor.

when the light is off, the design is invisible.

Farmhouse Style Foam Pumpkins Decorated With Vinyl

Quick Tips:
  • Use 651.  You could also use 631, which is temporary, but the 651 is thicker and a bit easier to use on these.
  • Apply your design from the middle out, pressing the design into the grooves of the pumpkin as you work out to the edge.
  • If you are using rows of text, cut them into smaller sections rather than trying to apply the entire design at once.

Applying The Vinyl
Scroll to the bottom of this post for  step by step of the fonts and images used for this design.

Weed your design, apply transfer tape (I like the clear contact paper from the Dollar Tree)
Then apply the design to the pumpkin.

Start from the middle and work out, pressing the design into the creases of the pumpkin as you work.  The vinyl does not always stick quick and fast  - you may have to work slowly and press repeatedly, removing the transfer tape slowly.

Once the transfer tape is removed, rub over the design again with a soft cloth, making sure all of the vinyl is firmly attached to the pumpkin.  It takes about 3 days for the vinyl to "seal" and be permanent.

This is a painted pumpkin - I bought a bunch or orange ones on clearance a few years ago, and painted a few of them white.  This is Smoky Beige Krylon spray paint.

The Designs

Truckenmiller - Font is Starfish

For this pumpkin, it's a monogram on one side, and this Halloween design on the back.
This makes it easy to flip it around for the week of Halloween, and back to the monogram for the rest of fall, through Thanksgiving.

This basic design is one I use a lot here on the farm.
The idea is from a flour sack from the Truckenmiller mill that is framed on our living room wall.
It's pretty simple to create, although I would not recommend using the font I used for "welcome".  The extra stringy shadow pieces on the letter are very difficult to work with, especially on a project like this.

Welcome - Font is Algerian (Tricky to work with - easier in htv )

Star is from the shapes option in Design Space

Goats (sometimes I use cows) are a silhouette I downloaded and cleaned up
I simply go to google, type "goat silhouette" and search by images, to find one I like.

Lines are from the shape option in Design Space.
Make a rectangle, unlock it, and make it thin.
Repeat that, making the second one thinner.  Duplicate both lines for the bottom.

Hickory Springs Farm  - Font  is Brush Script MT
(I use Fontlab Pad for proper spacing, don't forget to weld.)

D.W. Truckenmiller - Font is Rockwell Condensed

Watsontown Pa - Font is Agency FB

Wedding Themed Pumpkin Decorations Made With Cricut

A Wedding Themed Foam Pumpkin

These were gifts for my neices bridal shower.  We have had a lot of family weddings in the fall, so I have made a few of these pumpkins.  For this one, I used an exacto knife to cut off the top, and added silk flowers
  • Foam Pumpkin From Michaels
  • 651 vinyl

The decoration on the top and bottom is called a laurel

You can cut these from vinyl and use them as stickers on pumpkins, or you could cut them from paper (or contact paper) and use them as stencils to carve pumpkins.  When cutting stencils from paper, we use straight pins to attach the stencil to the pumpkin.

A Note About Using Hocus Pocus & Sanderson Sisters Designs -
The Hocus Pocus Movie is owned by Disney.  Disney does not grant licenses to small businesses to use their designs.  As such, it is probably not legal to sell anything with any Hocus Pocus or Sanderson Sisters design.  I say "probably" because there may be some grey area with the phrase, and exactly what is copyrighted I simply do not know.  I am no expert - I do not personally sell items that I make.  I'm pretty certain anything related to Hocus Pocus would have to be personal use only, the designers are very unlikely to have the right to sell you a commercial use license.
