Cricut Christmas Craft Challenge Week Eight - Glittered Christmas Ornaments

Week Eight - Glittered Christmas Ornaments

So many crafters get a new Cricut machine specifically to make Christmas gifts, but then are completely overwhelmed by how to use the machine.  To make it a little less overwhelming, I put together 12 weeks of Christmas Crafts, Step by Step, walking you through new skills each week  to help you become comfortable with your machine and how it works..  Find the index here:  https://fieldsofhether.blogspot.com/2020/10/the-12-week-christmas-craft-challenge.html

This week, step by step,  we're learning about making glittered Christmas Ornaments with Cricut.

For "Choose Your Own Adventure" section this week, there are a variety of ideas for different Christmas ornaments to make with Cricut.

This is the "quick view" of a longer step by step you can find here:

These are really easy to make!  Pour in some polycrylic.  I use a condiment container - like a ketchup container - to pour the polycrylic into the ornament.  Swirl it around to coat, then drain it back out over the can.

I'm impatient, so rather than stand and hold it over the large can here, I have a smaller can of this exact same product that the  ornament can sit  on top of to drain a bit more, while I start the next one.

THEN I set them in an egg carton to drain for a few more minutes.

Then I repeat the process with glitter.  Add it, then swirl, then flip upside down in the egg carton again.

Options Other Than Polycrylic
You do not have to use polycrylic.  Others have used hairspray, mop & glo, and even mod podge.
The coverage will vary by material however, and for me, I have found that Polycrylic looks best.

See the step by step comparison of mop and glo and polycrylic here:

Applying The Decal
Round ornaments are more difficult than the flat disc ornaments.
Smaller is harder to weed, but it easier to apply to curved surfaces

Don't Scratch The Glitter
Pull the wire up, as shown on the right.
Place the lid on the ornament, then press the top down.
You are less likely to scratch the glitter this way!
