True Single Line Fonts To Write With In Cricut

Truly single line fonts for use with pens and the draw feature in Cricut

When using the pens with cricut, the pen will follow the same path as the blade, typically giving you an outlined, or "bubble" text.  There are more than 100 free fonts that will collapse on themselves and appear single line, but there are also free truly single line fonts - some of which are shown above.

Christmas In July - 5 Cricut Projects (With Free SVGS) To Make This Week-End

I know - It's July, and Christmas feels a long way off. But it's going to be here before you know it.
Here are 5 projects you can cut and make to get a head start on the Christmas crafting season.

Where To Find Free SVGS For Making A Paper Christmas Village

This is a great time of year to decide on a Christmas village, and get it cut out.  You can print out the webpage with the instructions (just in case the website disappears!) and put all of the pieces and the instructions in a zip lock bag to assemble during the holiday season, if you don't want to actually put it together now.

This was one of my favorite projects last year from Special Hearts Studio. It's  a FREE svg, and several of my friends asked me to make them one when they saw it.  I didn't have time to make extras last year, but this time of year I can get a head start, cutting out several  and putting together the outside layers, and making sure I have enough of the lights for inside.  Closer to the holidays, I can finish assembling them, adding the side pieces, but for now, I want to be able to store them fairly flat in ziplock bags.

This is another incredible free svg from Special Hearts Studio.  (She has so many amazing projects!)  For this one, my plan is to cut it out for each of our adult children's families.  Then I'll add all of the supplies (glue, lights) to assemble them to a ziplock bag, and after Thanksgiving, I'll mail them out, so that the kids can each assemble their own.

Looking for a quick hostess gift, or gift for the neighbors? You can often find clear glass plates at the Dollar Tree.  A little etching cream, and a stencil made with cricut, and you have custom plates.
Here's a step by step tutorial on how to make them:

Customized Christmas ornaments make quick and easy stocking stuffers.  These arabesque tiles often sell out in our local Lowes & Home Depot stores at holiday time, when they are a popular craft. July is a great time to get a head start on these - or on any Christmas ornaments!  I often think I should make one Christmas ornament a month, year round, so that i am not so rushed in November..  but here we are in July, and I still have not started any this year.  :-)

Five Summer Themed Cricut Projects To Make This Week-End

Yardzee, Roll A Doodle, Cake & Casserole Carriers, and Reusable Drink Pouches -
Five Summer Themed Projects To Make With Cricut

While working on projects like this in the summer, I try to think ahead - would any of them making a good Christmas gift for anyone on our list this year?  It's often easier to make three of something all at once, than to go back and make one later, and it's great to have a head start on our holiday list!

This Dollar Tree Cake Carrier is a fun project for transporting dishes, or cakes, to a Family Reunion or picnic this summer.  The carriers are not super strong, so if you put an entire bowl inside (as shown here) be sure to support the bottom and not just carry it by the handle.  :-)

These carriers make nice hostess gifts too - you can just add the hosts monogram. in place of, or in addition to, this design.
Step by Step & Where To Find the Cut Files:

I love those foil pans for carrying casseroles to a pot luck.  But I hate transporting them - they are often flimsy.  And then I stumbled across these - holders for foil pans.  The center part, which I have of course decorated with vinyl, pops out for serving, then pops back in for transport.  It's one of my favorite things.

Yardzee is simply outdoor yahtzee.  You can also play Farkle with these, and probably a variety of other games we haven't thought of.  the Bucket makes it easy to transport to picnics and summer events, and it looks cute just sitting on our own porch at home.  :-) My husband cut the wood for the dice, but they can be purchased  - some Dollar Trees even carried them in their craft section  last year.

Roll A Doodle
Find the step by step and links to all of the svgs, fonts and printables, here:

This is a  fun activity for kids at summer picnics and family reunions - and it's so simple!
Although I like the look of the tub, and it worked well for the picnics and events that summer, when it came time to pack the summer things away, I really wished I had made this in a flat container with a lid - something easier to store away.  :-)

These reusable drink pouches are perfectly for slushies, and the vinyl on the outside helps everyone to remember which pouch was theirs.

Quick Tip - Use Painters Tape To Keep Tiny Paper Pieces From Getting Lost

When there are tiny pieces in a paper cutting design, I put them on painters tape and tape them to my desk.  The paper sticks to the tape, but removes without tearing.

Note - the glue is still wet on this, which explains the white smudges. Thankfully, this glue dries clear.  The design is 4 inches in diameter.

If you look up at the right, in front of the phone, there's another piece of painters tape stuck to the desk surface - it's holding more paper pieces for another project.  I do this a LOT, and have never had an issue.

Comparing Off Brand Blades To The Cricut Original Blade

Comparing the Hardwoer Replacement Blade to the Cricut Brand Blade
Note - Occassionally he Hardwoer brand is not available - but Caregy has identical ones.
The blade on the left is cricut, on the right is Hardwoer.  They are exactly the same size.
Be sure to remove the red cap before trying to insert it into the holder.  There's a video showing you how to change the blade, below.
