On the drive from my grandsons house to the farm, he announced "We need to make a bird craft today Grandma.". Well, that certainly sounds do-able. So we tried a couple of options. The first one I tried, I got the sizes all wrong, and it wasn't nearly as much fun to make as I had envisioned. The second one, which I almost didn't even attempt to create, was a huge hit.
This is just shapes - no svg is needed - but I did upload the svg just in case some of you find it easier.
If you have uploaded the svg, the entire group size should be 12.302 x 11.9
The large triangle is 11.9 x 6 & the circle is 2 inches in diameter
From left to right, the pieces are:
Wings, extra support for under wings, two legs, head, beak & 2 feet
I've also included a link to the project in Design Space, which is probably the fastest way to make this, if you have a cricut. Since it's just shapes, the project is completely free, there's nothing you should have to purchase from Cricut.
Find the Project in Design Space - COMPLETELY FREE - here:
To assemble - fold the circle in half - place the beak in the center. Add googly eyes.
Fold the large triangle in half, then add a strip over the fold to add support.
cut slits along the edges to form "feathers"
This is for the other bird we tried, but it's the same concept - I drew lines so he could practice cutting on the lines. He's 3, and already handles scissors quite well - but that's because he has a lot of practice. :-)
For the legs, glue them at the bottom to hold them together, and glue the tops to the wings on each side. Do not glue in the middle.
Pull on the legs, and the wings move up and down.
