Pop Up Puppy Card - From PDF to SVG

Making A Children's Birthday Card -
Using a pdf file converted to svg, and made with the help of my 3 year old assistant.  :-)

The file and tutorial I used  are from here
https://mmmcrafts.blogspot.com/2012/06/guest-tutorial-for-craft-camp.html
Although I did find about half a dozen different sites with this basic design, I downloaded the specific pdf file from this site.

Then I went to this site:
https://cloudconvert.com/pdf-to-svg
Uploaded the PDF, and downloaded the svg.

It made two svg files.  Uploaded, they look like this:

Lets start with the file on the left.

Change the color to something lighter - so you can see the lines.
Then Ungroup, Ungroup.
(Ungroup is the two overlapping squares right under the word layers, on the top right)

Select all the lines, and change them to score

If you are new to cricut, this can be a little frustrating sometimes, selecting the lines and shapes without moving them out of place.  Select the items in the menu on the left, if you are on a laptop - it's much easier that way.  There's an extra rectangle here, that as far as I can tell is not needed.  I deleted it.  The yellow circles above show where the score lines are attached.  The score lines are not critical, if you have too much trouble getting them attached, you can just delete them.

There are 4 scores lines on the ears - two on each ear. I deleted two and left just one on each ear.

The half circle on the left rotates to form the body of the dog

Now on to the second svg:
Again, it's easier if you change this to a lighter color, so you can see the score and cut lines.
Then ungroup, and ungroup, and ungroup...

The black oval is the nose, the long piece is a tongue, and the square is the base.
The middle horizonal line you will want to cut - that's a slit where the tongue will go into the card.
The two vertical lines should be changed to score.

Don't forget to select the score and cut line, and the blue base, and attach.

Now we have most of the parts, and we've used all of the svgs.  Next we add shapes.

Using the shapes tool, add:
EYES:
2 white circles, in inch in diameter
2 black circles, .6 in diameter
(Or, googly eyes)

CARD BASE:
1 5.5. inch score line
1 rectangle, 5.5 tall by 8 inches wide.

Select the line, and the white card base.
At the top of the screen choose "Align" then center
Then attach.

That's all the pieces!

Unless...
You can easily add text to the inside of the ears. Use a writing font, and the pen in cricut.  Be sure to change the text to Draw, and Attach the text to the ears.

Since the writing is on the BACK side of the paper used for the ears, it's easier to add a shape and attach the writing to that.  I use the pennant shape - free under the shape tool menu in Design Space.

SIZE:
W:1  H: 2.645

Here's a list of FREE writing fonts:

I used the Pinsetter Line 2 Font - NOT a free font, but true single line.  It's really a pain to work with, and not necessarily one I'd recommend.

ASSEMBLY
=============
The top of the tongue is folded over and attached to the ears.
If using a textured paper, I recommend flipping the ears upside down - textured side down.  That when when folded, the textured side shows.

Then the  the half circle glued to the bottom of the blue card

The tongue then comes through the slit in the center of the card

The eyes and nose go on the face
Then when adding the face to the card, only glue the top and sides.
NO GLUE over the bottom where the tongue pokes down.

Now when you pull on the tongue, the ears pop up

I forgot to add the "Pull" text  in Design Space, I wrote that on manually later
