Four Easy Ways To Make Wine Slushies - With Recipes

Wine slushies made three ways:
On the far right is a tart red wine slushy made with a local red wine and simple syrup, blended, and froze frozen.  In the middle is a peach wine, mixed with frozen peaches and a cup of rum, blended, and froze.  (I'd knock the rum down to half a cup next time, this one is a bit strong... ) and on the far right is red cat wine, poured into a flat container and sat in the freezer overnight.  This morning I pulled a fork through it to "stir" it into a slush.

How To Make A Wine Slushy - Four EASY Options

  1. Use Powdered Wine Slushy Mix (so easy to make your own!)
  2. Mix wine and fruit in a blender, freeze into ice cube trays, blend the wine ice to make your slushy
  3. Freeze wine in a loaf pan, once frozen, scrape with a fork to make it slushy
  4. Blend wine with frozen juice concentrate and ice cubes
When I read about freezing wine and scraping it with a fork to make it slushy, it sounded tedious.  It is not.  It's little more than stirring with a fork really - the wind does not freeze all that solid.  This is super quick and easy!
Tips:
  • Boones Farm, Arbor Mist, Red Cat - cheap, fruity wines work best.  "Sangria" type wines tend to work really well.
  • Avoid wines with higher tannin content.
  • Those super expensive "wine slushy" mixes are sugar, citric acid, and fruit powder blended together until fine.  They sometimes add beet root or cranberry powder for color, and matcha for no discernible reason (possibly to help justify the cost of back of blended sugar).
  • Try adding half a cup of rum, or some ginger ale, for variation.
  • I have a ninja, a blender, a food processor, and a slushy machine.  My regular old Kitchenaid Blender does the best job of crushing ice into slushy consistency.
These drink pouches are cheap, reusable, and fun to decorate with cricut.
You can make your slushies in serving sizes and just pull one of these out and add a straw (this pack came with 50 pouches and 50 straws, for around $12), or fill them up and pour the slushies into cups.  I like that they don't take up a lot of space in our freezer.
