2023 In Review - Our Favorite Games

Our Favorite Games To Play in 2023

On The Table:

Five Crowns - A Rummy Style Card Game that our family plays so frequently that we go through 1-2 decks of cards every year.  My husband and I play this one several times a week by ourselves, but as many as 7 people can play with one deck of cards.  The more people playing, the longer the game takes...

Blank Slate - Our daughter in law got this one, and brought it over for Christmas this year.  We LOVED it, and have played it numerous times already.  At one point, we even had an adult child playing by phone with the rest of us, and one of the grandchildren had his own slate where he doodled while we played.

Fumbling Ferrets - A new game for us this fall, I bought it for our daughter thinking that it was more like the NYT connections game we play each day.  That's not what this is at all - but I'm glad I made the mistake, this is a fun game.  You start the game with so many coins, and you use them to buy cards from a choice of three stacks each round.   After 4 rounds, you flip the timer and make the highest point word you can with the cards you have.

Dominoes - Recently we were asked if we could help with an event on New Years Day, and my daughter commented "absolutely not.  I have firm plans to play dominoes with my grandmother all day."  LOL!  It's a New Years Day tradition - pork and sauerkraut, followed by Dominoes.

On Our Phones:

Our family has a variety of group chats, all with different friends and family, for the NYT Games.  Wordle, Spelling Bee, Connections, and the Crossword are our favorites. Wordle and Connections are Free - Spelling Bee you can only play part of the game each day for free.  The daily mini crossword is free - the full crossword is part of the games subscription.
The website shows it currently as on sale for $1 a week, but the $25 a year deal showed up in the app for me - I'd been using the free version of the app for a couple of months.
