A Year Of Classic Blocks - Quilt Challenge 2016

January Classic Block - Bow Tie

In January I completed one 8 inch bow tie block for the January challenge, with the goal of ending the year with enough blocks for a sampler quilt, made out of feed sack material.

12 8 inch blocks would make a 96 x 96 quilt, if I do not border the squares.  I will border the squares.  But then I looked at the February block, it is 12 inches.  Ugh!  I don't want to combine 8 inch blocks with 12 inch blocks.  Most of the charts I found for quilt sizes are based on 12 inch blocks, and the January classic block pattern does have measurements for a 12 inch version.. so I think I will do each of the sampler blocks in 12 inches from here on out.

Then I stumbled across this block, by the winner of the January contest:

I love that quilt so much!  It appears to be 7 blocks across and 8 blocks long.  56 blocks.  While I have the fabric out for the sampler blocks each month, I'll make 5 additional bow tie blocks, I think.

So, each month I will want to complete:
Classic Block Of The Month - 12 inch block, 72 blocks total needed = 6 of the block of the month
Bow Tie Quilt - 56 blocks, 8 inches each = 4.6 blocks a month.  I'll plan on 5 and maybe get this sewn together before Christmas.
From a print fabric, cut:
2 squares 4 1/2'' (6 1/2'')
2 squares 2 1/2'' (3 1/2'')
From a contrasting solid fabric, cut:
2 squares 4 1/2'' (6 1/2'')
12 inch block sizes are in ( )

Converted for my purposes - Sampler Quilt
4 print squares 6.5 inches, in 3 different fabrics = 12 6.5inch squares
4 print squares 3.5 inches in 3 different fabrics = 12 3.5 inch squares
12 white squares 6.6 inches each

Bow Tie Quilt - January
(one block is completed, so I will want 4 more)
4 squares 4 1/2'' in 2 different fabrics
4 squares 2 1/2''  in 2 different fabrics
8 squares 4 1/2'' in white
