Finished:
On Monday nights I drop our youngest at football practice, and stop by the library. I am there to read through the old newspapers for genealogy, but I end up with a stack of books on the way out the door.. this week I finished two I did not intend to read. I am sure I will come out with more tonight!

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15279983-total-home-makeover Of all the home organization books I have read so far this year, this one is by far the most orderly and informative. I can't say that I loved it, but it was good, better than most I think. I look forward to reading more about the wave method of cleaning that she suggests. Her cleaning schedule is way to brief for me. In one chapter she breaks down how long each part of the cleaning should take, and there is just no way I can do it as quickly as she does.... my house is not THAT large, it is average sized I think. One of my daughters friends was over this week-end and commented on how much time I spend cleaning, and basically that my house should be much cleaner for the amount of time I spend working on it. Hurtful, because it feels so true - I can't figure out why it takes me so long, and yet my house is still never as clean as I think it should be! Or more accurately, how do others spend so little time cleaning? I like that this book addresses routines, they are something I think are very important and help a lot here. But she chooses so few actual cleaning chores each day,and still manages to clean her entire house in only two hours one day a week, and it works for her. There is even an entire section on planing your wardrobe in here. For a short book, it really covers a lot of material.

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12072362-the-pioneer-woman-cooks I would not normally count a cookbook on my read shelf, but this is a lot like a book, and i did sit and read it cover to cover. Some of the recipes I have already tried, they appear to mostly be the ones that are featured on her tv show.

Not nearly as good as Stuff Christians Like, but it was amusing.

Fabulous book. I will have to reread this, probably a few more times. There's a lot for me to learn in here.

STILL reading...

So far I am through Helen Keller and Columbus, and I am shocked by how much I didn't know. I downloaded a book including Columbus' letters and journal to read this year, just to make sure what I learned this time is real.. I'm loving this book. I could do without all of the commentary on why the author thinks history is so distorted, I'm not sure I agree with all of his conclusions, but the facts from history that I have checked have all been accurate.
Our Family Book Club Choice for February:

I finished another couple of chapters in this one this week. I really am enjoying this, I just rarely have this book near me when I have time to read.

I WILL finish it. I will. Eventually. I made a lot of progress last week, I think I will finish this up before next Monday!

One chapter a week - that is the way this is meant to be read, so this will be on my list all year long. It hasn't been earth shattering, the verses so far have not been necessarily what I would have chosen (and I have felt like I have been cheating, since they are verses I already knew pretty well and did not need much effort to memorize), but the point of this is the discipline of doing it, and for that, the format is ideal.

I enjoy just looking at Ree's cookbook. I have not tried anything yet. I did not know she had a TV show. I used to read her blog all the time. Have a great week of reading.
