31 Days To Clean - The lesson plan

Today's Mary challenge, on day 15, includes "Write up a lesson plan for your children about the eternal value that taking care of your domain has."  There are additional instructions...  but boy, am I struggling with this.

My immediate thought is "because I said so."  I also make my kids shower regularly.  And eat healthy foods.  Because they need to.  We taught our boys to open doors for women and elderly, and carry things  as well, and our boys, who are older teens now, have changed more than one tire for someone alongside the road, or in a church parking lot.  Why?  Because it's the right thing to do.  We've never done a lesson plan, never backed these actions with scriptures, no inspirational quotes..  unless we go with Nikes "Just Do It". :-)

And that's why I expect them to clean their rooms, and not leave a  lot of mess around the house.  Because it's the right thing to do.  We have the additional guilt trip of "this was Grand…

Tuesday Garden Party

My Tackle It Tuesday Project today -  Before.
There was a butterfly bush here, but I trimmed it a bit too enthusiastically the other year, and it didn't come back.  :-(  The one on the other side of the steps is now huge, and taking over..  but I'm afraid to trim it back!  :-) After -

The iris are blooming!  They are one of my favorites, even though they don't make a good cut flower usually...
Just a tad overgrown.  :-)  I'm really thinking about pulling those bushes out completely..  but for now I really need to trim them back!  I cut all the iris that are on the ground here and put them in vases in the house.
More flowers in the house -
I found a plant stand, like a yard sale, but all plants, in Muncy..  everything was $1!
Black raspberries, conflowers, brown eyed susans, shasta daisies, sweet pea,  lily of the valley...
I cleaned out the bed to the front of the house, and planted a lot of the new plants in here.  It will  probably be too crowded when they all get big, but …

31DaysToClean modified - Living Room

Today's 31 DaystoClean assignment was to dust the living room ceiling and walls.  Normally I clean the living room on Fridays..  but since Dan was pretty sick, and hanging out in the living room, all day yesterday, I thought it would be a good idea to do both the living room AND the bedrooms today.  :-)
I  can't just dust walls and ceilings - that seems silly to me.  My living room is small and cramped, if I'm going to do the walls and ceiling, I might as well just clean the room and be done!  So I did.
Tools Needed -  one bucket of plain water & wash cloth Glass cleaner and cloth dusting spray and cloth vacuum & attachments
First I take all the blankets and pillows to the laundry room.  Throw pillows go in the dryer with dryer balls - the plastic spikey ones from the dollar store, and either a wet wash cloth or one of the dryer balls you can add water to a sponge in the middle of.  Fluffs and cleans them right up..  I then air fluff the throw blankets in the dryer too,…

Farm Work Monday

My husband has Monday's off, so it's the day we try to get most of the farm work done around here.

This morning we knew it was going to rain..  so we skipped breakfast and got straight to work, hoping to get a bunch done before it started.  We did pretty good!

Moved the ram, Samson, from the front pasture with the goats, to the maternity pen with the sheep.  We meant to move him with the sheep earlier this spring, but couldn't catch him.  :-)  The shearer is coming on Wednesday, so we wanted all the sheep together and easy to catch..  which is why they are in the maternity pen, it's a much smaller space.
Earlier this spring one of the high wind storms collapsed a small shelter we had in the lower pasture.  It's been so wet, we haven't been able to get a truck into the field to clean it up.  We were able to get in there today finally!
Also from the lower pasture..  each year after a local town does their christmas tree collection, the boy scouts collect them and b…

31 Days To Clean Week 2 Fail & Plan

Well, that was a fail!  :-)  I have a list of good excuses.  A killer migraine wiped out half a day, and lingered off and on for a couple more days.  ONE week of sunshine after a month of rain, with rain forcasted for all of next week again,  made it silly to sit inside cleaning out cabinets...  there will be plenty of time for that when it rains all next week.
How ironic is it that I'm making excuses on a week that was about laziness?  LOL!  I didn't really read a lot of the chapters this week, I admit.  I'm behind.  Cleaning my kitchen cabinets is a huge project - to do them all takes most of my day.  It's not something I can just fit into an already busy week.  So rather then move it to later on the list, I just sort of ignored most of the week.   Which was silly - cleaning my pantry only takes a minute, I do that every week, I could have split the kitchen cabinets into two days to even that out.  But I didn't.
Then add in the "6 things".  This drove m…

Trying a new to do list..

(if you are here for menu plan monday, scroll down to the chart at the bottom of this post, my menu is right on my weeks overview list this week..  I find it helps me to plan my menu better if I am looking at our calendar and what we are doing each day at the same time)

I keep my detailed weekly chore lists in Mobisle notes, as check lists that I can check off each day of the week.  That works pretty well..  but then I was having trouble fitting in the 31DaystoClean Assignments.  Some of those would take all day!  I wasn't properly prepared at the beginning of the week.  After playing with a few different formats today, I went back to my old standby - Google Docs.  I love Google Docs.  I can edit them on my laptop, then view and edit them through the Google Docs app on my phone.

I used to do a weekly overview sheet similar to this each week, in microsoft publisher, then print it and put it on the fridge..  but this is even better.  I always have my phone with me, and can look this…
